A TRIP TO ANCIENT ATHENS
On Tuesday the 16th of October 2012, Theano Papaioannou visited “The Game of Joy” and presented ancient Athens in a three-dimensional ancient Greek environment.
She showed the children the ways of the people of the age in an imaginative and vivid way. She talked to them about their gods, their statues and their diet.
The young students traveled effortlessly in this magical world. They participated creatively, happily and willingly. They described their experiences with disarming sincerity
Here ‘s what they told us...
“The ancient Greeks drank wine and ate nuts with honey”
“The male statues have long hair:
“We ate raisins, and I wanted to eat more”
“I remember miss Theano with her beautiful hair”
“The garden was circled by drawn veeeeeery tall houses”
“The old coins are black, not dirty”
“They drank coffee in brown glasses”
It is the second year we welcome this educational program to our school and we will continue to do so, because it is very “real” and the children learn about ancient Athens while having fun. Ms Papaioannou does her job brilliantly and the children love her.
The program was run for the Benakio Children Institution of Kifisia.
The Benakio Children Institution of Kifisia implemented a two day educational program in the school and in the ancient Agora with the extremely active participation of its 1st kindergarten class.
Students’ and teachers’ comments:
"Do you want to give something to Theano to thank her?"
-Let’s make a drawing for her.
-No, let’s transform to ancient Greeks
-Let’s build the Acropolis”

Comments...
Knowledge can be accessed by children no matter how complicated it may be. You just have to give it to them in a way appropriate to their capabilities and interests. In our kindergarten we were restless spirits and could not wait to go to the 4th Grade to satisfy our curiosity regarding ancient Athens. So we decided to go on a trip to classical age Athens. Our ally was Theano Papaioannou who inspired us to implement the program and guided us in the Acropolis Museum.
It was a magical experience. In a hands-on way, with excellent visual aids, real life objects, nice stories from the ancient times, songs and theatrical games we obtained knowledge and saw there are many things to explore further.
The Acropolis Museum was exciting. It was a perfect site, and although there are many exhibits that we do not comprehend in our age, our guide with her simple language and nice stories made us love it. Our favorite exhibits were the Caryatids, the Kuri and the Kore as well as the Parthenon sculptures.
...Ms Theano, our trip to ancient Athens was wonderful and we thank you very much. We hope all the children live this experience...

6/11/2011 Interactive Tour Game for Galaxias Guides of P. Faliro
A magical trip in space and time. The travelers were preschool children who take part in Guides programs in P.Faliro. The trip took place on Sunday, November the 6th.
Starting in Piraeus harbor and finishing on Acropolis, they wandered in ancient Athens, in the archaic and classical ages.
The objective was to experience the everyday lives of the Athenians of the era through all their senses. Touching, smelling, eating, listening and even singing.
3/2010 Halkida Guides: Tour/Game in the New Acropolis Museum
We just enjoyed a fantastic and interesting experiential tour of the Acropolis Museum. The children of Halkida Guides were divided in teams and played a game. They admired the exhibits and travelled back to the glorious ancient Greek days. The tour was organized by Theano Papaioannou. With the aid of her experience, her vivid nature and her storytelling skills, she captured the kids’ interest, made them to actively participate, and convinced them that a visit to the museum is not boring at all.
Thank you, Theano for the unique trip you offered us!
